Been writing books since 2002 including West Country Ales, Great British Pubs, Britain’s Beer Revolution (co-written with Roger Protz), the beer anthology Beer, In So Many Words and his new book, The Seven Moods of Craft Beer; general editor of both editions (so far) of 1001 Beers To Try Before You Die and contributor to The Oxford Companion to Beer, World Beer, 1001 Restaurants You Must Experience Before You Die and the Italian Slow Food guide to beer. Chair of Judges at the World Beer Awards and also on the jury at the Brussels (and Dutch) Beer Challenge, Birra Dell’Anno and Copa Latinoamericana de Cervezas Artesanales in Peru.

Expert taster and talker on the world of beer. Winner of the 2007 Budweiser Budvar John White Travel Bursary and silver award winner in the Guild’s Award for National Journalism 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2015; gold award winner in 2011; silver award winner for Social Media and Travel in 2013; also a silver for food writing in 2016. A couple of travel awards in the bag as well. British Guild of Beer Writers Beer Writer of the Year 2017.
