Leigh on Sea Brewery Wins at the London Beer Competition

Leigh on Sea Brewery from Southend among the select few award winners at the 2018 London Beer Competition

The idea to start Leigh on Sea Brewery came along in December 2016 during Ian Rydings and Mark Springham’s tour of local hostelries. During this tour they noticed the absence of a brewery on Leigh on Sea, or for that matter, Southend. This coupled with the fact that the two had significant knowledge about beers owing to their vast experience of beer drinking, they decided to start a brewery of their own. A brewery aptly named the Leigh on Sea Brewery.

Leigh-On-Sea BreweryAt the London Beer Competition, held in March, 2018 the Legra Pale Ale from Leigh On Sea Brewery was awarded a bronze medal. A light, fresh and sessionable golden ale, the Legra Pale is named after the first ever mention of Leigh-on-Sea in a book, when it was called Legra. The Legra Pale is single hopped, during the boil and following fermentation and contains lashings of Citra hops for a clean citrus flavour. The beer has an alcohol volume of 3.8% and pairs extremely well with seafood.

The dream of starting their own brewery was realized in early 2017 when the opportunity arose for Ian Rydings and Mark Springham to put their talents together and pursue their passion for brewing quality beer. After getting proper training and gaining the required amount of experience, the first batch of beers from Leigh On Sea Brewery started flowing.
