Funky Bow- A Father Son Love Story

The mission is to make the best beer they can!

What would a brewery be without a story to complement its rich flavorful beers? His father Paul and he were estranged for seven years. To this day they are not sure why maybe they should have started a brewery a long time ago. At that time, Abraham’s father was growing his winter farm business, while he was being educated in the sciences.

As Abraham was preparing to graduate from college and working in a microbiology lab, he wrote his father a letter which Paul kindly responded to, and that started a unique dialogue unlike any they have had. That very Christmas Paul bought Abraham the Cadillac of homebrew kits. He was already involved in home brewing groups at school, and his friend Donovan and he were experimenting with new, unique yeast strains and ingredients. Abraham started brewing in his dad’s garage and went nuts, like a mad scientist.

Abraham answered the phone at work one day only to be asked if he wanted to start a brewery, his answer as you can imagine was hell yes!! From that time they have been brewing beer, beer and more beer. Their style is as unique as their landscape; they intertwine a clean American ale style with a rustic twist. Nothing at Funky Bow is plain and/or normal; their beers will always challenge your taste buds in the best of ways.

The Beers

Midnight Special: With so much flavour and complexity this is one of their favourite dark beers.  The hints of roasted malts and chocolate balance well with the upfront coffee aroma and flavour.  They cold brew the coffee right in the finished beer bringing out its true expressions.

Jam Session IPA: Light straw-coloured malt bill that lends a nice dry, crisp, yet slightly sweet finish. The hops used are Azacca, centennial, Ella and Citra. Tropical fruit, pine-citrus aroma. The flavour is tropical fruit up front, star anise spice in the middle and a citrusy, hoppy finish that leaves your mouth watering for more.

So Folkin’ Hoppy IPA: A delicious hoppy IPA. A generous addition of hops with a kiss of malt sweetness balances this IPA very well.  The nose is upfront with the galaxy hops, lending nuances of grapefruit, pine, and tropical notes.

G-String: Smooth and drinkable! Nice flavorful light malts allow the summer and cascade hops to shine through. With hints of sweet orange and coriander, this pale is unique as it is smooth.

End Of The Line: Rotating One of our first Pale Ales they have ever made. Full-bodied, smooth, crisp and drinkable.   Unlike other Pale ales they brew, this one is made using all Cascade hops! The cascade flavour of citrus and pine compliments the Vienna and caramel flavours perfectly. Enjoy, because it’s alright at the end of the line.

Panama Red: Malty with a nice Centennial Hop balance.  Hints of floral, citrus, and spice with a bready caramel malt backbone. The crisp mouth feels ties it all together to produce one of their most well-known beers.
