Beer Trends To Look Out For In 2020

The beer industry is forever thriving, and yearly changes are bound to happen. Here’s what the beer world has in store for the industry in 2020.

Let’s be honest here, beer is never really going to go out of trend. Yes, sometimes people drink less of it, and sometimes they drink more of it - but in the end, everyone loves a pint or two sometimes. As a beer brand, you definitely want to stay up to date with all the trends, so you know what consumers and buyers are looking for.

Let’s take a look at 5 beer trends you need to look out for in 2020.

  1. Low abv - no abv

This is a trend we’re seeing in all alcoholic beverages, be it wine, beer, or spirits. Consumers are going towards the low abv trend, due to reasons such as health and calorie count. Due to this, consumers are either grabbing up beers with lower alcohol by volume, or those without alcohol. Brands are also starting to get in tune with consumers’ choices, as a lot of brands are launching beer with lower alcohol volumes - and some are also launching the infamous non-alcoholic beers.

  1. Sustainable Packaging

The world of beer is already a few steps ahead of the wine and spirits industry when it comes to sustainability. Be it production or packaging, the beer industry already has a couple of tricks up its sleeves. 2020 is going to be bigger and better for the beer industry in terms of sustainable packaging. Brands are pushing themselves more and more in making their packaging sustainable, reusable, biodegradable etc. Of course, the saviour of the planet is the main reason, but also because consumers tend to support brands who are synced with the current issues and working towards resolving them - and sustainability tends to be one of the biggest ones.

  1. Trendy Taprooms

Gone are the days where consumers go to the supermarket and pick up a six-pack. These days, taprooms and breweries are all the craze. In fact, this is one of the main reasons that the craft beer scene is also picking up. The idea of sitting on a barstool in a taproom and being served a fresh brew is something consumers are enjoying, and are going to continue enjoying this year. So if your taproom and brewery aren’t open to the public yet, you might want to think on those lines.

It’s pretty evident that the beer market in the UK is quite a large one. The number of brewers in the UK has grown by over 64% in the last 5 years. So how is your beer going to be the one customers grab off the racks, or end up ordering at the pub? Here are digital marketing musts for your beer brand.

  1. Craft beer takes the stage

For the past few years, craft beer has been in the spotlight quite a lot, and this year is going to be no different. Consumers are very much into exploring new flavours, new styles, and new brews - and craft beer fits in with all that perfectly. Especially with brands and breweries producing beer in the most sustainable way possible, consumers tend to trust them more compared to bigger beer brands these days. And of course, due to taprooms and breweries taking off, craft beer interests and sales are inclining immensely.

  1. CBD beer for the win

2019 was all about CBD. CBD edibles, drinks, beauty products, and more. Everything had a way of infusing the beneficial CBD in it, and this year is going to be no different. You are bound to see a lot of cannabis brands and beer brands coming together to create CBD infused beers and seltzers. This is something that consumers are also running after. Asia’s first CBD beer was just launched in Hong Kong by the name of OH CBD Beer. Other brands across the UK are also finding a space to fit CBD into their beers, and it’s all that people are asking for these days.
