LBC Registration Ends June 10, 2020

2020 London Beer Competition submission is now open. Submit your beer before June 10, 2020, and them judged by quality, value, and packaging.

The London Beer Competition is back after the huge success of its 2nd year.  The competition, due to its unique approach to judging beers, has been recognized as a unique and ideal beer competition among all the other beer judging events.

The Competition looks to set a new benchmark for award-winning beers by assessing & rewarding them for their Quality, their Value for their money and their Packaging.

The average customer is known to judge a beer by price first. They then go ahead and scan the label and pick out the beer with designs that attract them towards the brew. Both price and packaging come before the producer even gets a chance to show how good the beer is.

Judges during 2018 London Beer Competition

The London Beer Competition is being launched to identify and reward those brands and products that consumers actually want to buy, rather than simply recognize good quality beer for their beer making ability alone. To be a real success, a beer brand has to be bought by consumers, be it on a supermarket shelf or a restaurant or bar's list. The London Beer Competition will single out and highlight the beer brands on sale in the UK and International markets that are truly commercially successful. Read more about how it works here.

Quality

We celebrate the beers that are both enjoyable and easy to drink.

Packaging

What a beer brand looks like is how every consumer chooses their beer. Majority of consumers would choose a new beer just because it looks good. So, well-designed packaging is a must-to-consider factor.

Value

To be a good beer, it is not necessary to be of a higher or lower price. What affects most is the value for money a beer holds

Medal-winning beers are the ones that :

  • Offer the best value for their price

  • Offer the best quality for their price

  • Stand out on shelves against competitors

  • Tell a story in the most relevant way

All beers entered in the London Beer Competition are judged by a leading panel of top beer buyers with current direct commercial buying responsibilities. These experts are professional beer buyers who select what beer goes on the shelves of supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, bars, and stores.

The judges were selected from all sides of the industry – writing, brewing, trading, beer sommeliers, marketing and educators.

Ros Shiel, Secretary of the British Guild of Beer Writers and 2019 London Beer Competition judge said “I think that competitions have probably become more important as the market has grown because as a consumer, if you’re confronted with a very busy beer aisle or a bar with dozens of pub clips, how can you, unless you know the market, unless you know what brands are already like, how can you differentiate, how can you make a choice. So actually, having a beer with a medal win on the label or on the pub clip gives you some kind of reassurance that a mark of quality, that other people, that experts have tasted this beer and found it to be an award-winning beer. And I think for an initiated beer drinker, that can be pretty reassuring”
