Orkney Brewery Victorious at a Renowned Beer Competition

The Dark Island Reserve from Orkney Brewery won two awards at the London Beer Competition

The Orkney Brewery is housed in a former schoolhouse in Quoyloo. Located on the tranquil Orkney Islands, the Orkney Brewery is one mile away from Skara Brae in the heart of Neolithic Orkney. The  brewery was born from the history and traditions of the islands and use traditional methods handed down through time to brew their ales.

Orkney BreweryAt the 2018 London Beer Competition, Orkney Brewery’s Dark Island Reserve was awarded with two medals. The two medals that the Dark Island Reserve won were a silver medal and the highly coveted Best Beer by Packaging award. The silver medal was earned with an overall score of 78 points from the judges.

The Dark Island Reserve is a rich and strong Orcadian ale. The beer is finished in old oak casks formerly used to mature fine scotch malt whisky after being initially fermented gently at the brewery. The unhurried process helps create a classic full of fruit, spice, oak and roast malt flavours. The Dark Island Reserve has a 10% ABV and pairs well with red meat dishes and dark chocolates.

The process of creating the ales at Orkney Brewery have been developed over time and help in creating the finest ales. The finest ingredients along with pure Orcadian water are used to create brews that are full of flavours. This helps create a brilliant combination of yeast, malts and hops mixed with Orcadian water.
