The London Beer Competition is pleased to welcome Benjamin Selby, Specials Beer Buyer at Cave Direct, to its 2027 judging panel.
Cave Direct is one of the UK’s leading specialist and craft beer importers and wholesalers. In his role, Benjamin identifies and sources distinctive beers from established and emerging breweries, helping introduce exciting international releases to the UK market.
Benjamin works closely with breweries, suppliers and drinks-trade professionals to build beer selections that combine quality, consumer appeal and commercial potential. His experience also includes helping organise trade tastings and brewery showcases that connect international producers with UK bars, retailers and beer professionals.
Benjamin brings a valuable understanding of what makes a beer relevant to the UK market. His judging perspective will consider not only technical quality, but also beer style, packaging, value, consumer demand and the product’s potential to succeed commercially.
For breweries, having their beers assessed by active buyers such as Benjamin provides an opportunity to understand how their products may be received by importers, wholesalers, retailers and hospitality operators.
The London Beer Competition evaluates every beer on three important criteria: quality, value and packaging. This ensures that winning beers are enjoyable to drink, competitively positioned and presented in a way that appeals to trade buyers and consumers.
