Located in the picturesque Kent countryside, Balfour Winery is renowned as one of England’s leading wine producers, with a pioneering spirit in crafting traditional method sparkling wines and innovative still wines. With an annual output of over 400,000 bottles, Balfour combines world-class winemaking with a commitment to excellence. In a recent conversation with Jake Balfour-Lynn, Beer & Cider Brand Manager at Balfour Winery, we explored the winery's unique approach to producing a distinctive range of beers and ciders blended by winemakers.
The winery's journey began in 2002 when co-founders Richard and Leslie Balfour-Lynn planted their first vines on the Hush Heath Estate. The breakthrough moment came in 2007 when their Balfour Brut Rosé 2004 won a gold medal at the International Wine Challenge, firmly placing Balfour Winery on the wine map. The winery and tasting room were later expanded, establishing state-of-the-art facilities that are now considered among the best in England.
Balfour Winery’s beers and ciders reflect the same craftsmanship as their wines, using local ingredients and winemaking techniques to create drinks that embody elegance and balance. The use of Burgundy wine yeast in their lager and carefully selected apple varieties in their ciders distinguishes their offerings within the UK market.
